natural pain relief during labour?
im 17 and due to give birth in 8weeks. i really want to use natural pain relief like aromatherapy or anything you have to offer. im no good with needles and im willing to try most things. please help….
Oo Chantelle how exciting, I hope that you feel OK!
I had a blood clot in my lungs when I gave birth to my youngest last year and so I couldn’t have any pain relief.
Make yourself this blend:
2 drops lavender
2 drops chamomile
2 drops mandarin
2 drops geranium.
Blend into sunflower oil or similar and massage on to the lower back.
Lavender and chamomile will ease your pain, mandarin is super for exhaustion and nausea and geranium will keep you positive.
Other sites will tell you jasmin, don’t do it unless you have very weak contractions and are not progressing…its very strong and will hurt. Likewise myrrh is a bad idea, its too strong. I used clary sage in my bath for a couple of days before to try to get things going but I don’t think it helped.
What I will suggest is start massaging your perineum with some evening primrose oils (break the capsules its loads cheaper) each evening, it will stop you tearing. Also the evening primrose will start to get the prostaglandins going to keep the labour efficient when it does start.
What I found absolutely invaluable was learning to visualise, and in actual fact I delivered him just with breathing, and I didn’t even push, he just popped out (the midwife nearly missed him!)
Practice breating in very slowly and your belly expanding like a huge red balloon, try to maybe breathe in for 20 – practice it will come, I only had one lung remember! Then as ou breath out see it turning blue and floating away taking the pain with it. Try to breathe out as slowly as you breathed in.
I also had a lavender spray that kept me cool, I have attached a link for you.
Remember if you want to have baby in the water you cant use the oils, or at least you need some shower gel to scrub them off before you get in the pool
