Aromatherapy, soapmaking for men…?
I am planning on making some handmade soap for my Beloved man, who does not like “cloying”, “flowery” or “fruity” scents.
Any ideas for an essential oil combo that is light, but still masculine and enjoyable? Other than plain sandalwood/bay rum, please! I am not fond of rosemary, either…
OK–I looked around and also brainstormed and this is what I discovered
First the combinations and then the single ones–
1. for men to deepen sexual interest and response in both partners a mix of Jasmine, Rosewood, sandlewood, vetiver, ylang ylang, cedarwood, clary sage and frankensence
2.cardamon seed- It imparts a warm note to masculine scents and floral perfumes. It blends well with bergamot, frankincense, ylang ylang, cedarwood and coriander. Aromatherapy benefits: warming, comforting, alluring
3. allspice- It combines well with orange, ginger, patchouli and all of the spice oils including cinnamon, cassia and clove. Aromatherapy benefits: warming, cheering, comforting, nurturing
4.coriander seed . It blends well with clary sage, bergamot, cinnamon bark, jasmine and frankincense for use in spicy, masculine perfumes or light, floral colognes. Aromatherapy benefits: nurturing, supportive
5. Juniper Berry – Juniperus communis/Bulgaria, France/Fruit. Juniper berry oil is distilled from the dried ripe berry of the juniper tree. Juniper berry oil has a fresh, warm, balsamic, woody-pine needle odor. It is used with citrus oils in room sprays and in masculine and outdoorsy perfumes, after shaves and spicy colognes. Aromatherapy benefits: supportive, restoring
6. An earthy, masculine blend including expensive essential oils that have been used historically to increase male potency while deepening sexual interest and responsiveness.–cedarwood, clary sage, frankensense, jasmine,. rosewood, sandlewood, vetiver and ylang ylang combined
7. smelly man suds”–lye soap with patcholi and lavendar It has a heady, but decidedly masculine, scent.
8. 3 parts lemon grass and one part cedarwood
9. rosewood and cedar may also add sandlewood to this combo
10 Masculine Mixes
If you plan to use essential oil in air freshener, potpourri or bath salts for your fellow, Jenny particularly recommends any of these combinations:
• One part patchouli to one part lavender
• Three parts lemon grass to one part cedar wood
• One part patchouli, one part lavender and one part oak moss
11. “We did some research and found some studies that say vanilla and cinnamon scents make men feel more passionate. Another said that lavender and pumpkin pie make an even more potent combination, so we added pie spices such as clove to our arsenal. Most important, Jenny has tested these scents on regular guys — drummers, doctors, a gardener or two. Even when they didn’t create an instant Don Juan, these aromas did get some appreciative sniffs — and some regular use in the sweaty, mildewy male domains in both our households.” (source -herbcompanioon)
12.. lime, mint, and rum
13 coriandar, juni[per berry and citrus
14, rosewood and cedar
single essential oils might be the following:
1. Wintergreen – Gaultheria procumbens/China/Leaf. This oil was once an important perfumery and flavoring material, but has been replaced by less expensive and more reliable supplies of synthetic methyl salicylate. It is used in toothpaste and mouthwash Aromatherapy benefits: refreshing, bracing, invigorating.
2. For Men,
Musk,
Patchouli,
Bay,
Vetivert
and Violet Essential Oils are powerful attractants for Women.
3. more on sandlewood though you aren’t interested in it maybe
Sandalwood essential oil with its warm, buttery, wood fragrance made the top of the ingredient list. “It’s from India,” Jenny says, “and it’s incredible on man, woman or child. It’s just on the edge of being obnoxious, but it rounds out many other scents and gives them staying power.” Sandalwood chips waft the same great smells and give potpourri a woodsy appearance, too. Other masculine-smelling oils include rosewood and cedar. “Cedar chips don’t hold their scent for long, but they’re a great ‘carrier’ for essential oils in potpourri.”
4. *Pine – Pinus sylvestris/Russia, Austria/Twig and Needle. Pine oil is distilled from the twigs and needles of the Scotch pine that grows throughout much of Europe and Asia. It has a fresh, resinous, pine needle aroma. The oil is used to scent a number of household and personal care products such as room sprays, detergents, vaporizer liquids, cough and cold preparations and masculine perfumes. When used in skin care preparations, pine oil should always be well diluted as it can be irritating to sensitive skin. Aromatherapy benefits: refreshing, invigorating
5, Clary sage essential oil is another of Jenny’s musts for men. Clear to pale yellow, it has a sweet, nutty fragrance that goes great with the deep lemon fragrance of bergamot. Bergamot has the added advantage of aging better than actual lemon or lime oils, which can start smelling institutional. But be careful using it in bath salts or anything else that will come in contact with your skin, cautions Jenny, who’s also a registered nurse. “It can be a potent sensitizer to sun exposure.”
6. *Marjoram, Sweet – Majorana hortensis/France/Herb. Sweet marjoram is distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of the same plant that produces the culinary herb. The aroma of the oil is warm and spicy, with a hint of nutmeg. It is used in masculine, Oriental, and herbal-spicy perfumes and colognes. Wild marjoram, (see below) is often substituted for sweet marjoram, but the two are not interchangeable in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy benefits: warming, balancing.
7. Patchouli has the unusual quality of improving with age, so it’s used to prolong the life of other scents, and of any concoction it’s part of. “It combines beautifully with lavender essential oil,” says Jenny.(source-herbcompanion–scents for men)
8. Chamomile, German – Matricaria recutita/Hungary, France/Flower. The oil of German chamomile is also known as blue chamomile. The color of the oil is deep blue, turning green then brown with age and exposure to light. The odor is sweet, tobacco-like and fruity, apple-like. It adds a warm, long-lasting, rich undertone in perfumes. Chamomile is a mild, soothing oil and is popular in massage blends and other herbal preparations. Aromatherapy benefits: calming, relaxing, soothing.
9. many of the plants with masculine traits are used to wake the brain, increase circulation.. and give energy to the body like cinnamon, frankincense, and vetiver
10. one I think really works for a man is peppermint
11.also ginger/
–bergamot/
–marjoran/
–orange and ginger/
–ginger/
–lemon/
–grapefruit/
–wintergreen/
–anise/
